Willamette High School – Volleyball 2025 Offseason Spotlight

Offseason Focus

This offseason, Willamette Volleyball has centered its energy on fundraising, foundational strength training, and skill development. Open gyms have helped sharpen on-court chemistry, and weightlifting sessions beginning in June aim to build power and explosiveness. The goal is clear: come into the fall stronger than ever—mentally, physically, and as a team.

Special Offseason Events

Details on camps or tournaments are still in development, but Coach Coburn and her team are actively exploring opportunities that foster team bonding and individual growth before competition kicks off.

Notable Additions & Departures

While specific player departures or roster shifts haven’t been announced, a major development is on the coaching side: Coach Coburn has hired an all-new coaching support staff and is introducing a new JV2 team, both strategic moves to elevate the program’s competitiveness and player development pipeline.

Players to Watch

Player spotlights are forthcoming, but with a renewed emphasis on offseason training and culture-building, breakout performances are expected from both returning athletes and rising newcomers.

Weight Lifting and Fitness

For the first time in over five years, the program is committing to regular weight room sessions throughout the summer. This initiative focuses on explosiveness, speed, and reaction time, giving athletes the tools they need to elevate their performance when the season begins.

Nutrition

While there’s no formal nutrition program yet in place, this may become a priority as the program continues to evolve under its new leadership.

Coaching Perspective

After taking over in the 2024–25 season, Coach Coburn is using her first full offseason to set a new standard for the Willamette program. From staffing upgrades to launching a JV2 squad, she is laying the groundwork for long-term success and a culture of accountability, competition, and growth.

Fan Engagement & Community Impact

Willamette Volleyball is enjoying a wave of support from the local Eugene community. The team has hosted adult volleyball tournaments as fundraisers, creating a fun, competitive way for fans to get involved. These events have already generated enough funding for new training equipment and staff hires, fueling the team’s upward momentum.

Biggest Challenges Ahead

After several seasons of adversity, the biggest challenge lies in shifting the program's culture. Coach Coburn is determined to instill a winning mindset that will help the Wolverines not just compete—but thrive—in the seasons to come.
