Coming off a season filled with growth and leadership from a talented senior class, the Big Rapids varsity volleyball team is setting its sights on the future, with new faces, fresh energy, and a summer packed with opportunity.
“Our focus this offseason has really been letting our athletes thrive in their other sports,” says Co-Head Coach Emily Van Culin. “We believe being a multi-sport athlete makes them better all around.”
Summer Plans & Camps
Big Rapids is gearing up for two big summer events:
Ferris State Team Camp
Team Challenge in July
Both offer valuable time for skill-building and team bonding, and the coaches are excited to see how the group grows in those competitive and collaborative environments.
Changes on the Court
This offseason, Big Rapids welcomes Co-Head Coach Dale Wilhelm, whose addition brings "structure and technical support" to the program. However, the team also says goodbye to five graduating seniors—a loss that leaves a leadership gap both on and off the court.
“We’re excited to see who’s ready to step up and lead this year,” Van Culin adds.
Players to Watch
The Cardinals have a diverse and athletic roster, filled with multi-sport athletes who bring competitive energy and cross-training benefits to the volleyball court. Several players also compete in club volleyball, staying sharp throughout the offseason.
Summer Grind Ahead
Though the offseason fitness and bonding schedule is still being finalized, team camp promises a pivotal moment for chemistry, leadership, and team culture. On the nutrition side, while there’s no formal program, the coaching staff remains committed to educating athletes on proper fueling during the season.
Looking Ahead
The biggest challenge will be replacing the leadership core that graduated, but with a renewed coaching dynamic and athletes who excel across multiple disciplines, Big Rapids volleyball is ready to rise to the occasion.
