The Thomas Jefferson Academy Jaguars had a memorable boys basketball season under the leadership of Head Coach Jonquin McKinney, making a deep run to the Final Four and clinching a region title along the way. With a mix of senior leadership and emerging underclassmen, the team grew into a cohesive and competitive unit throughout the season.

Key Contributors

The Jaguars were led by a strong core, including seniors Jace Brooks and Sam Miller, and juniors Ty King and Ryder Rabun. Each set the tone early in games and helped elevate the team’s competitive spirit. Coach McKinney emphasized that success came from a collective effort — from players pushing each other in practice to stepping up when it mattered most.

Season Overview

Coach McKinney described the season as “great,” although he wished for just a few more minutes in that Final Four matchup. “I wish I had one more year with those seniors,” he added. The team faced tough competition early against AA and AAA schools, which helped sharpen their edge for region and state play.

Turning Points

The early challenges against larger schools molded the team and prepared them for the postseason grind. Once the Jaguars secured their first region win, their momentum surged, leading them straight into the playoffs.

Player Development

Juniors Ty King and Ryder Rabun stood out for their growth during the season. As they matured on the court, they became key contributors and embraced leadership roles, showing promise for next season.

Handling Adversity

Despite the usual challenges of injuries and tough matchups, the Jaguars adopted a “next man up” mentality. Coach McKinney credited the team’s depth and preparation, noting that several players were always ready to step into starting roles when called upon.

Senior Leadership

This year’s senior class was pivotal. Their experience and ability to make clutch plays, while also getting younger teammates involved, laid the foundation for the team’s regional title and postseason success.

Looking Ahead

With a talented group of returners who already know what it feels like to compete at the highest level, Coach McKinney is optimistic: “Now we just have to work hard, stay healthy, and WIN IT!”

Offseason Focus

The focus moving forward? Defense. The team aims to let strong defensive play generate easy offensive opportunities next year.
