After a promising year on the trails, Glendale High School’s cross country team heads into the offseason with optimism—and for good reason. While most teams feel the sting of graduating seniors, Coach Kaleb McMunn and his squad are in a unique and enviable position.

“We’re only losing one female senior from the varsity squad, and all of our varsity boys are returning,” McMunn notes. “That continuity allows us to pick up right where we left off and challenge for top finishes this fall.”

Player to Watch: Bowen Nelson

Leading the charge for the Falcons will be Bowen Nelson, a rising senior who embodies the team’s relentless work ethic.

“Bowen has consistently shown that he’s willing to go the extra mile—literally and figuratively,” says McMunn. “We believe he’s poised to do something special in his final year.”

Mind Over Miles: A Season of Discipline

As Glendale builds on a solid roster, Coach McMunn and his staff are turning their attention to an often-overlooked area: discipline, on and off the course.

“Our athletes are talented and hardworking, but we want to reinforce the idea that discipline doesn’t stop at practice. It should carry into every aspect of their lives.”

Overcoming the Inner Voice

The greatest challenge facing the team this season may not be the competition—it could be internal.

“Our runners are their own toughest critics,” McMunn explains. “They take feedback well, but we’re working on helping them not let self-doubt hold them back. What was once an obstacle is now a key focus for growth.”

Final Thoughts

With experience, chemistry, and a renewed mental approach, Glendale Cross Country is primed for a breakout year. Whether it’s on the course or in character, the Falcons are ready to rise.
