With consistent state appearances and a tradition of hard work, the Noble High School Cross Country team is once again preparing for a competitive season under the leadership of Head Coach Timothy Shortes. The offseason is all about building on past success and ushering in the next generation of Bear runners.
Offseason Focus
The team’s primary offseason goal is simple: keep building. With graduation claiming key contributors, the coaching staff is working to elevate returning athletes and support emerging talent. Maintaining the program’s legacy of state qualification—six years running on the girls’ side—is top of mind.
Notable Additions & Departures
The girls' team graduated three impactful runners, but returns two strong seniors and a core group of promising sophomores who gained experience last year. On the boys' team, fans will be excited to see the return of Jake Nabors, who showed tremendous grit after a freshman-year state qualification and an injury-ridden sophomore campaign. He’s joined by sophomore Steven Hawkins and a promising freshman class, highlighted by Rayder Phillips, who finished his 8th-grade season undefeated.
Players to Watch
For the girls, Jordan Stejskal and Emma Strawderman are poised to lead the team. Both have been training hard and are ready to step into larger roles. On the boys’ side, look for Jake Nabors, Steven Hawkins, and Rayder Phillips to make a major impact as the season progresses.
Offseason Training & Preparation
The team will follow a structured summer training plan, ensuring consistency and progression throughout the offseason. Runners will also participate in Noble’s “Summer Pride” strength and conditioning program, led by Coach Robin Schmidt, to enhance their overall fitness and injury prevention.
Coaching Strategy
Coach Shortes and his staff are focused on strategic planning, offseason accountability, and helping runners improve in all areas—from endurance and pacing to recovery and nutrition. “We’ll be laying out a plan for the runners to follow during the summer offseason,” says Shortes, ensuring that athletes enter the season prepared and confident.
Biggest Challenges Ahead
As with any cross-country season, injuries remain the top concern. Staying healthy—physically and mentally—is critical to the team's success. With proper training, recovery, and support, the Bears are hoping to keep their roster strong and on the trail through the finish line.
