Offseason Focus: Building Athleticism and Technique

The Fredericksburg High School football team is deep into its offseason with a clear mission: develop athleticism and prepare players to execute at a high level.

“Our primary focus has been to develop athleticism through our strength and conditioning program,” said Head Coach Bill Wilder. “Now, we’re entering into our spring install phase, where the emphasis starts to shift toward technique and scheme.”

Character Over Camps

Rather than overload an already busy student-athlete schedule, Coach Wilder has prioritized internal development over external tournaments or camps.

“Our kids are swamped with demands throughout the year,” Wilder said. “So, we focus on character development with weekly team meetings during the offseason.”

Roster Additions Set to Make an Impact

The roster is expected to receive a boost with some new talent joining the team, specifically at the receiver and secondary positions. These additions should bring depth and competition to key areas on the field, complementing the returning players from last season.

Weight Room Gains and a Strong Offseason Culture

The program’s strength and conditioning approach is showing clear results.

“What’s new is old and what’s old is new,” said Wilder. “We’ve made a few tweaks, but the core of our offseason program remains consistent year after year. Our first round of testing has shown tremendous progress across the board.”

Coach Wilder also credited his staff for their hands-on development with the players and praised the athletes for responding with “great attitudes and effort.”

Coaching Strategy and Future Outlook

While specific strategies for next season are still developing, the coaching staff continues to prepare with the same focus on fundamentals and execution. Emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and player growth will continue to guide the team's overall direction.

Biggest Challenge: New Season, New Opponents

As the team looks forward to the 2025 season, one of the biggest hurdles will be adjusting to new competition and continuing the momentum from a successful offseason.

With promising new talent, steady leadership, and a culture built on strength and discipline, Fredericksburg Football is setting the stage for a season of continued growth and high expectations.
