As the Seventy-First Falcons gear up for the upcoming season, Head Coach Anthony Coleman has his eyes set on growth, chemistry, and adapting to new challenges.

Adapting to a New Conference

The main offseason focus for the Falcons has been preparing for a new level of competition as they transition into a different conference. The team is working hard to bring younger players up to speed while building stronger team cohesion. “It’s all about adjusting and growing together,” says Coach Coleman. “We’re emphasizing chemistry and getting our younger guys game-ready.”

Preseason Competition: B-NICE Tournament

Although no formal camps or trips have been planned yet, the Falcons are set to participate in the B-NICE Tournament at Southview High School. Traditionally held a week before the season opener, this event helps players, especially newcomers and goalkeepers, get comfortable in a competitive setting. It also doubles as a great way to bond with the community and gain valuable match experience.

Key Departures and Who’s Stepping Up

The Falcons will enter the new season without three of their most influential seniors:

Chris Williams (Center Back)

Najee Shakeel (Striker)

Juan Lopez (Left Forward)

All three were All-Conference selections and vital leaders on and off the field. Replacing their production and leadership will be no small task. “Those three were the heart of the team. We’re now looking for the next wave to step into those shoes.”

Player to Watch: Emerson Alvarado

Returning standout Emerson Alvarado is expected to be the driving force for the Falcons this year. An All-Conference and 910 All-Star selection, Emerson was one of the area’s top contributors in both assists and goals. His experience and leadership will be crucial in guiding the younger players this season. “He’s been putting in the work and setting an example. We’re expecting big things from him.”

Conditioning: Building 80-Minute Players

Coach Coleman continues to emphasize endurance and fitness. The offseason includes heavy cardio and running-based conditioning to ensure every player is capable of playing at full intensity from start to finish. “We train to be 80-minute players—physically and mentally tough.”

Coaching Approach & Adjustments

From a coaching standpoint, Coleman remains hands-on and involved. He’s also working on tactical adjustments to help the team compete with programs from more competitive regions. “We’re analyzing where we need to evolve, especially with the changes in conference. We’re committed to elevating our level of play.”

Challenges Ahead

The Falcons face a couple of pressing challenges heading into the season:

Finding consistency, especially in a goal.

Replacing senior leadership quickly.

Building chemistry early in the season.

“We have talent. Now it’s about confidence, cohesion, and rising to the occasion,” Coleman says.
