Offseason Focus
This offseason, Oldenburg Academy’s cross country program is locking in on one key goal: building strength and durability. With an emphasis on high mileage and longer, slower rep workouts, the team is laying a strong aerobic foundation. The focus is less about early-season speed and more about developing athletes who can peak when it matters most.
Roster Stability
In a rare and exciting twist, the team returns every single athlete from last season—there were no graduating seniors. This means more continuity, stronger chemistry, and a chance to build on last year's progress with a full roster of experienced runners.
Breakout Runners to Watch
Keep an eye on Logan Harshbarger and Josie Wenning, two rising sophomores who started to shine at the end of last season. Both have been consistently improving throughout the track, showing promising speed gains and maturity. Their work ethic and steady progress hint at breakout XC seasons ahead.
Training & Conditioning Approach
Coach Eckstein is implementing a calculated approach to offseason training. The focus is on gradual buildup, incorporating strength and conditioning while sprinkling in just enough speed work to maintain sharpness. With only five runners per team, staying healthy is just as important as getting fast.
Biggest Challenge: Depth
The biggest hurdle this season? Numbers. With just five runners on both the boys’ and girls’ teams, there’s absolutely no margin for injury. The coaching staff is walking a tightrope—pushing hard enough to maximize performance while keeping everyone healthy and race-ready all season long.
Looking Ahead
With a tight-knit, returning roster and a smart, strength-based approach, Oldenburg Academy is aiming to surprise some people this fall. The pieces are in place for a special season, as long as they can keep everyone on the course.
