Key Contributors: Balanced Attack Leads the Way

The Lady Broncos were powered by a group of impactful players who each brought unique strengths to the court:

Savannah Heihn & Shelby Harrington provided the offensive firepower, scoring efficiently both from long range and around the rim.

Aniyah Johnson & Yardin Evans anchored the defense, disrupting opponents and creating fast-break opportunities with their tenacity.

Together, this core helped shape a team identity rooted in resilience, balance, and growth.

Season Overview: A Year of Growth and Competitive Strides

The 2024–25 season was marked by development, competitive fire, and continued progress for the McKinney Boyd program. The team:

Finished with a 14-16 overall record

Logged 6 district wins, a program high

Achieved back-to-back double-digit win seasons

A major highlight came in a statement victory over Princeton, the #1-ranked team in District 6-6A at the time—a defining moment that kept playoff hopes alive and showcased the Lady Broncos’ potential.

Turning Points: Confidence-Building Wins

Two games stood out in shaping the team’s path:

Victory at Princeton, toppling the district’s #1 team at the time.

Opening district win with a depleted roster, demonstrating grit and teamwork under pressure.

These key wins served as springboards for belief and momentum throughout the year.

Emerging Impact Players

One notable breakout player was Sydney Martin, who elevated her role through hustle plays, intangibles, and sheer determination. Known for doing the “hard hat” work, Martin consistently made winning plays that tipped the balance in close contests.

Resilience Under Pressure

Coach Kellen Hearn praised the team’s ability to respond to adversity, whether from injuries, tough losses, or high-pressure situations.

“Our team fought hard every night,” Hearn said. “They evaluated, adapted, and improved—handling pressure better than ever before.”

Senior Class: Professionalism and Daily Leadership

This year’s seniors set the tone through consistency, accountability, and a commitment to daily excellence. Their leadership wasn’t just vocal—it was visible in how they approached practice and competition.

Looking Ahead: Poised for a Breakthrough

With a strong core returning next season, Coach Hearn is enthusiastic about the direction of the program:

“This is a very special group who are on the brink of making history. The opportunity to take the next step is right in front of us.”
