Ellsworth High School Swimming Season Preview

The Ellsworth High School boys swim team capped off an exceptional season with a 7-1 record, a Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) Championship, and a third-place finish at the State Championship—a remarkable feat considering the competition from larger schools. The team’s success was powered by a deep, dedicated group of student-athletes whose academic and athletic excellence set a high standard for the program.

Key Contributors

While the team’s accomplishments were a true group effort, several athletes stood out. Senior Kobe Swett was a driving force in the pool and on the diving board, earning Conference Swimmer of the Year and Diver of the Year honors. He also secured a spot on the Maine State All-State Team, alongside Cavan Jester, another standout performer across multiple events. Other high point contributors included Andy Erlanson, Noah Frost, Charlie Birdsall, Tyler Hollenback, and Eden Klein, all of whom not only placed first in their strokes and relays at the PVC meet but also performed at a high level in the State Finals. Many were selected for the Conference All-Star Team, reflecting their dominance and consistency throughout the season.

Season Highlights

A near-perfect dual meet record, a conference title, and a strong showing at States were all part of a season Coach Goodman describes as "very successful." The team’s dedication extended beyond the pool, earning the NISCA Scholar Team Award—a prestigious academic honor—thanks to a combined team GPA of 3.714.

Defining the Season

Rather than a single defining moment, the season was marked by steady progress. Each meet served as a stepping stone, with swimmers improving times and sharpening their technique in pursuit of peaking at the championship level.

Growth & Leadership

Coach Goodman emphasized that every swimmer made significant improvements throughout the season. The seniors led with experience, passion, and a strong sense of mentorship, passing on a legacy of sportsmanship and excellence to the younger swimmers.

Looking Ahead

With only a small senior class graduating, the program retains a solid core of elite swimmers and welcomes a promising freshman class. The outlook is bright, with many athletes participating in age-group swimming and spring sports to stay in peak condition and continue developing their all-around athleticism.

Offseason Focus

Rather than rigid offseason training, Coach Goodman encourages multi-sport and club participation, fostering well-rounded student-athletes who bring diverse strengths back to the team each winter.
