Season Overview

The 2024–2025 season was one of growth and resilience for the Caston Girls Basketball team. Under the leadership of Head Coach Josh Douglass, the youthful Comets navigated a year filled with new faces and fresh opportunities after graduating five key players from the previous season. With a roster heavy on freshmen and sophomores, Caston embraced the challenge and used the season as a developmental stepping stone for the program's future.

Key Contributors

Sophomore Madisyn Douglass emerged as the team’s most impactful player. She led the Comets in scoring, rebounding, and steals, averaging an impressive 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. Her all-around contributions made her a cornerstone of the team’s success.

Freshman Grace Colvin took on the critical role of point guard, showing maturity beyond her years as she led the team in assists and orchestrated the offense. Sophomore post player Natalie Warner made notable strides throughout the season, improving significantly in rebounding and defensive play.

Player Development

Growth was a consistent theme throughout the year, with several players stepping into expanded roles. Both Natalie Warner and Allison Craig showed strong development as the season progressed, becoming more reliable contributors on both ends of the floor.

Handling Adversity

Despite a lack of experience and tough competition, the team never backed down. “They kept battling all year long and improving in each game,” said Coach Douglass. Whether facing injuries, close losses, or high-pressure moments, the Comets demonstrated tenacity and a strong work ethic.

Senior Leadership

While the team only had one senior, her leadership left a lasting impression. She led by example, providing stability and maturity to a team still learning the ropes of varsity basketball.

Looking Ahead

Coach Douglass is optimistic about what lies ahead. “What excites me most is how young we were last year and the experience that those younger girls got playing,” he said. With key returners like Douglass, Colvin, Warner, and Craig, the Comets have a strong core of underclassmen ready to elevate the program.

Offseason Focus

The primary area of focus this offseason will be scoring. “Our ability to put the basketball in the basket” is the team’s top priority, as they look to convert their defensive effort and improved teamwork into points on the board.
