American Fork High School – Boys Cross-Country 2025 Offseason Report

Offseason Focus

Our focus this offseason is straightforward: building aerobic engines. It’s the foundation of our program, and every run, every mile is geared toward developing the endurance and strength required for championship-level racing.

Special Offseason Events

We’re participating in two key events this summer:

Steel Days 5K – A community race on July 19th, which keeps us connected to our roots and offers a competitive tune-up.

High Altitude Cross-Country Camp – Held at Clear Creek, Utah (July 8–11), this camp will test and bond our team while training in tough elevation conditions—perfect prep for the season ahead.

Notable Additions & Departures

We graduated with a strong senior class, including 4 of our top 5 runners. This opens the door for the next wave of talent to step into leadership and scoring roles.

Players to Watch

Keep an eye on senior captains:

Austin Plewe

Dallin Harrington

Ben Ward

These three will be instrumental in setting the tone for a young squad. Their leadership, training discipline, and race-day execution will be essential this season.

Weight Lifting and Fitness

Our strength lies in consistency. There’s no magic trick—just maintaining year-round dedication to training. Our program doesn’t reinvent itself in the offseason; we double down on what works.

Nutrition

We emphasize a balanced, athletic diet. Key points include avoiding fast food and sugar-heavy simple carbs, staying well-hydrated, and fueling for endurance and recovery.

Coaching Perspective

I’ll be speaking at a coaches clinic in Texas this June. It’s always rewarding to share knowledge and also reflect on ways to evolve and grow our own program through these experiences.

Fan Engagement & Community Impact

We stay connected through social media and service. A highlight is our role in the AF Canyon Half Marathon, where we manage a water station—giving back to a community that supports us every season.

Biggest Challenges Ahead

With such a young squad, our main challenge will be patience—developing talent and confidence gradually. It’s about building the next generation of elite runners and trusting the process.
